Connelly decided to become an author when he was attending college at florida State. One day he discovered some Ray Chandler books and decided this it and changed his major to journalism and took a creative writing class. Connelly graduated in 1980 and started working for a local Florida paper. He covered most of the bad crimes in Florida in the cocaine wars because he was on the crime beat. His big break came in 1986 when he and a few other fellow reporters covered a major airline crash. The short story he wrote appeared in a magasine and eventually won a Pulitzer prize. This accomplishment had won him a job on the crime beat at the L.A. Times. He wrote his first book, The Black Echo, in 1992 and it won the Edgar award. Ever since then Connelly has been writing and winning awards like the Edgar award, the Nero, the Anthony, the .38 Caliber and the Grand Prix, giving him a very well respected rep. Connelly lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter.
